I'm thinking that just quitting sports would be a good idea. You would think that now that Sabre's hockey is over (and the Portland Pirates, their AHL affiliate, is also out) I could care less.
But no. I have decided I must be a sadist. For some reason I feel the need to pick a favorite team in every series and my teams are breaking my heart!
Thank you to the Blackhawks, the boys from Buffalo (having been from there and played there), Patrick Kane and Brian Campbell are moving on to the Western Conference Finals! This did make my week! I'm pulling for these guys to win the cup...they lack the experience, but they are my team!
I am very, very angry with the Caps and the Hurricanes. Seriously. I hate, hate, hate the Bruins and the Penguins and need to see them knocked out, but NO! The Caps have to force a game seven after winning the first two...much like the Hurricanes are up 3-1 and are also going to game seven. UGH. At least my other Western team is up 2-0 on Detroit, I would love to see Anaheim take Detroit in game 7! At least on Miller is still in the playoffs!
How do I let myself get this involved? These aren't my teams, I shouldn't care. Yet, I still I feel the need to choose a team in each series...it even extends to the AHL...we are all about the Providence Bruins getting knocked out since they knocked out the Pirates. We went to Worcester Saturday and were screaming for the Sharks...what is wrong with us!?
Sports suck...but they so do not!

In our politically correct society, the new popular thing seems to be banning fighting in hockey.
While I am one that enjoys fights, the staged fights do become tiresome and annoying. However, fighting has it's place in hockey.
If fighting were banned, what do you do when your star player is hit a little to hard and there is no penalty called? When the refs miss the fact that your goalie has been interfered with?
Sometimes fighting is necessary in the game. Hockey is an physical sport and if you take away the fighting, you take away the essence of the game.
I understand that I may sound cavemanish (or cavewomanish...totally not real words), but I think fighting is pertinent to the sport of hockey. Oh well, think what you want.

Kinda wondering if certain AHL players even take the play offs seriously. Is it a joke to them? Do they assume they'll be up in the NHL next year and the team they are with this year doesn't matter?
If so, I hope the Sabres organization pays attention and those immature enough to not step it up this post-season (I could name a few Pirates players...but won't) and realize they are NOT ready for the NHL.
Ugh...just annoyed...take it seriously...

I have these moments when I wish I was just a normal girl that didn't care about sports. I had my heart broken by seeing the Sabres missing the playoffs for the second year in a row.
I managed to rebound on the fact that their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates (who we've followed all year), made the playoffs...and they were matched up against the Providence Bruins (where we live).
We were totally pumped for game one...only to get to the game and see that there were like 100 people at the Dunk in Providence...at least our cheers were heard when the Pirates won game one!
Game two was two days later. I wore my Pirates Gerbe shirt and it was the most MISERABLE night of my sporting life! All started off well, we chatted with the Pirates assistant equipment manager, got some great pics of the players coming out onto the ice...but then I had to deal with the evil New England sports fans. Seriously, what guys yells at a girl for being a Gerbe fan? FYI, dude had on an Oilers jersey...I think he was confused about who he was cheering for...? But in all seriousness, I've never heard such obnoxiousness from fans in my life. I was embarassed for Providence.
We also hit game three in Portland. I am officially in love with Portland, ME! What a charming city...can't wait to go back! But back to hockey...we watched morning skate...it was optional so the guys playing in the game didn't skate. But we did run into Kevin Dineen on the street and said hi. We also got to see one of the newer Sabres prospects T.J. Brennen, back up goalie (who took over game 3 for Enroth) Kellen Briggs and assistant coach Eric Weinrich. They were all amazingly nice, but we can't thank the assistant equipment manager, Matt Flaherty, enough for being so kind and helpful to us.
The game was a blow-out. Pitiful, yet we stayed for every second, despite the fact that we had a 2 1/2 hour drive back home.
Stupid Providence won again tonight in game four. We are skipping game five in Providence. We just can't stomach the obnoxious fans...especially if Providence wins. Hopefully Portland can find a way to score. After all, you certainly can't blame Enroth or Brigss for the losses. Enroth has stood on his head at times...
